While traveling by boat on the Yangtzee River in China, I spotted this disk on another ship behind which is a rod used to secure loads. It had that perfect crusty look so I photographed it and transferred the image to canvas. I enhanced the disk part with dimensional paint and traced the pattern in raised wire. The sides are finished with pieces from a bamboo placemat. I'd been experimenting with drying mandarin oranges and decided, in the most perfect irony, to use them in this pieces for a balancing texture.
