ART that SOLD
I created this magic tool box that features eleven alien rod-like assemblies projecting up through a clear plexiglas mid-box shelf. Below the shelf are lights and mysterious metal containers. The door knob and deadbolt lock on the side turns the power on and off. Held up by tree limbs with baby shoes, I needed room for the CD player itself. It ended up in a Gilbert Microscope and Science Kit box. Since it hangs down between the four legs, I called it Gilbert Udder. The speakers are mounted on pipes mounted on boxes mounted on bricks. This piece may be the most alien of all my work to date. Makes my heart sing.
This unit is one of four pieces, all equally complex, that each make sound. This one plays "Percussion." (See "Insulator Box," "Deeper than Expected" and "Crystal Slinky Box.") This series is the first iteration of what evolved to "Four Voices" in 2013. The idea still has legs. (Legs. Get it?) It will probably reappear again. (see "Four Voices" in the ART for SALE Gallery for the complete description of exactly how these pieces worked together.)
